Wisdom & Honey

“Eat honey, my son, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to your palate; realize that wisdom is the same for you. If you find it, you will have a future, and your hope will never fade.” Proverbs 24:13-14

As i make my way through Proverbs i am reminded just how much of a ripple one rock can make. We all have choices in this life and our choices have consequences both good and bad. Proverbs makes it clear how important wisdom is in our lives. It talks about how wisdom is more precious than rubies or even gold and how wisdom brings about true happiness in our lives (pro 3:13-15). Wisdom is disciplined (12:1), humble (11:2), and obtainable (8:17). Wisdom isn’t something that just happens. It is a gift that is graciously given to us if we want it and seek it. Sometimes wisdom is biting our tongue and sometimes its speaking up even when our voice shakes. Wisdom is surrounding ourselves with people who sharpen us as iron sharpens iron (27:17). It’s letting our words be few and our ears turned up.

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding (Prov 2:6).

“trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (3:5).

Proverbs is full of the truth I think the world is lacking today. In proverbs there isn’t your truth and my truth, there is just truth. Sometimes truth is hard to swallow but it doesn’t change its goodness. I have been fortunate to have people in my life speak wisdom and truth over me. It is something I do not take for granted and the older I get, the more I crave people that are genuine and true. So may we listen to the words in Proverbs, seek wisdom, work hard, be genuine, be generous. Trust in the Lord, stay far away from wickedness, be humble, and act with integrity. May wisdom be as sweet as honey on your lips and may your hope never fade.
